There is a variety of school
camps offered at Mercy Regional College:
Camps - year levels
Year 7 camp is a 2 night trip to Cape
Bridgewater - near Portland in
February. Activities include: sand boarding,
surfing, caving, waterslides, Great Otway Walk. This camp is held in
the first few weeks of term one, and is
a great introductory to Mercy school
life for our Year 7's
Year 8 camp is a 2 night survival type
trip to Princetown in South West Victoria.
With this camp, students have to bring
everything from tents, to their own food
supplies. Activities on this camp
include canoeing, obstacle courses,
beach activities and trekking. This camp
teaches the students forward planning,
independence and resilience.
Year 9 camp is a two night trip to
Melbourne where the students do
activities ranging from a tour of the
Shrine of Remembrance, film making at
the Arts Centre, Street Arts tour,
Bounce, Etihad Stadium tour, Melbourne
Star, ice-skating at Icehouse, Victoria
Market, and free time in the CBD.
Year 11 camp is also to Melbourne for
2 nights, but is very different to Year 9.
The students get to experience parts of
the city that they usually wouldn't see.
They also compete in an amazing race
quest around Melbourne, which takes them
to Luna Park, the Alfred Hospital, St
Kilda Beach and Fitzroy. The students
also participate in guided tours, power
point displays, speeches and activities
at RMIT and ACU.
Central Australia - is held every
second year, and is offered to students
in years 9 and 10. This camping trip is
for 10 days in September. Students
travel by bus and visit Coober Pedy,
Kings Canyon, Uluru, and Alice Springs.
France and Belgium Battlefields Tour
- is also held on every second year to
the Central Australia Camp in September.
This trip is offered to students from
Year 9 to 12. The group sees the sights
of Paris, then the battlefields of
France and Belgium from the Great War of
1914-18. This tour is a wonderful
opportunity for our students to walk in
the footsteps of the generations that
came before us. The tour finishes
in London for a few days, before heading
home to Australia.
Kimberley Trip - is for 10 days in
October, and is offered to students in
Year 8. Students interact with the
Katherine, and Halls Creek students, and
hear their stories. This trip will widen
the students horizons, push their
comfort zones, new friendships to be
formed, and to see many parts of
Australia they have never seen before.
Cambodia Immersion Trip - is a 10 day
trip to Cambodia, and is offered to
students in Years 10 and 11. Students
are immersed into the culture of
Cambodia, and travel to the areas of
Siem Reap and the Metta Karuna Retreat
Centre ( a Jesuit Retreat Centre).
Highlights of the trip are: Angkor Wat
temples, Ta Prom, learning of the
history of Cambodia - Khmer Rouge/ Pol
Pot Regime, and teaching English
in local schools.
