2020 Theme

Every year our College community unites with a theme that guides us through the school year. The 2020 theme is “We are the light”. It was selected by the 2020 Student Leadership Team and is inspired by the Gospel of St John ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness’.

The theme brings to life one of the most famous quotes by the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, Catherine McAuley “We should be shining lamps giving light to all around us”. According to Catherine, the purpose of the lighted lamp is not to draw attention to itself but instead to give enlightenment to others. Catherine ‘s mission was not just seeking to relieve poverty but also to “spotlight” unjust practices, beliefs and societal structures that continued the marginalisation of the most vulnerable in her time. Our 2020 theme invites all in our community, as modern people of Mercy, to do the same.
